The After School Air Pollution (ASAP) Club is a club at Roosevelt High School in North Portland that focuses on air pollution. The club conducts air pollution research and works on ways to better inform members of their community about air pollution concerns. During the 2013-14 school year, the ASAP Club set up monitors in locations around North and Northwest Portland to measure NOx levels. NOx, or nitrogen oxides, are a by-product of combustion and are a surrogate for other pollutants. Members of the ASAP Club have traveled to Salem to talk with state legislators and some traveled to D.C. to meet with members of Oregon’s legislative delegation and representatives from EPA.
